Ambient Textures I by CM French

SPOTIFY / BANDCAMP

For the last couple years I’ve been exploring the space between sound and art, using different recording methods like tape loops and random clips, and how I can make music that is less about me and more a collaboration with The Moment. Allowing more space for randomness and mistakes to become the centerpiece.

It became a practice of embracing all things as they naturally are, more honestly and openly - unconditional love.

Seeing the perfect meaning and beauty in everything a bit more. Since I record over these tape loops each time, it was also an experience of deep acceptance of the nature of impermanence.

This is the first in a series of albums made of those experiments.

You can stream from everywhere or purchase from Bandcamp, but the track titles (which are just the dates when each track was recorded) were “unacceptable” for iTunes so for now, fuck em. If I get enough people saying they wish it was on iTunes I’ll issue an altered version there too. All proceeds will be donated to the NAACP & Black Lives Matter resources.

Alice Fades Away by CM French

I’m pretty excited to be working with the amazing new director Ryan Bliss, scoring his beautifully chilling thriller ‘Alice Fades Away’.

It’s dreamy and creepy and hypnotic, and we’re already having so much fun coming up with sounds to create something real unique and gripping to match the gorgeous cinematography and nuance of the story!

I’ll share more info when I have it.

On Tour with Asperger’s Are Us by CM French

I recently had the opportunity to work with Mark Duplass again, this time alongside the amazing Alex Lehman on their HBO docu-series called ‘On Tour with Aperger’s Are Us’!

The show follows 4 insanely lovable guys in a comedy troupe on their epic quest to make people laugh. It’s super funny, really smart and deeply moving & heartwarming.

Its on HBO now, and streams on their HBO Go app, I highly recommend it. This one was a real honor to be part of, I hope you enjoy it!

Piano Day 2019 by CM French

Piano Day is a day set aside to celebrate the beautiful (in my opinion perfect) instrument, and everything it has contributed to the world of music and the human experience.

Every year there are numerous events and celebrations from all over the world, for more information about it visit www.pianoday.org

In honor of this Piano Day here’s a short piece I composed for piano, violin and cello last year, enjoy

One For My Baby by CM French

The holidays are tough for some people, some times…
and it can be harder because everyone’s so cheerful, and the music and the vibe is so happy, for anyone feeling down it seems even more down.

A few years back, I was feeling blue over the holidays so I called up some pals who said they were in the same mood that year… the genius producer and recording engineer, Seth Waldmann, and incomparable pianist, Doña Oxford.

We met up one night, and 3 lonely hearts went into Nightbird Studios in the basement of the Sunset Marquis hotel and this happened - my rendition of a moody holiday tune, only for the lonely -

One For My Baby” by Frank Sinatra

So, if you’re not feeling the usual upbeat vibe this year, you might be lonely - but you’re not alone. Here’s a free download for you to drink yourself to sleep over, and we’ll see ya in a New Year!

'Tis the season, once again by CM French

Hey everyone,

There’s so much going on in our world right now. So, in the spirit of the holiday season, I just wanted to reach out to remind you that you’re loved… and no matter what - you’re not alone.

If you need a little extra holiday vibe to set the mood, here’s a free download of my version of the classic “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” to add to your seasonal playlist. I hope it brings you even a little more peace and joy, and you can pass it along to others too.

Through these strange and challenging times, love and passion will light our way.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas (and Hanukah and Kwanzaa) everyone, from me & my family, to you & yours.

Love,
french.

Unlovable by CM French

I am SO excited to announce that I just scored this awesome, dark, hilarious and touching movie about a girl facing her demons and overcoming sex & love addiction.

It's a Duplass Brothers production, directed by Suzi Yoonessi, starring Charlene DeGuzman, John Hawkes and Melissa Leo. The writing and the acting and the style of the movie is so cool and fun, so it was a rad opportunity, even though I only had about a week to score the whole film, start-to-finish!

We just wrapped the mix, and it goes straight to the South by Southwest Film Festival to premier this coming Saturday, March 10th at the Alamo Theater!

I am really proud of this film, I think it came out really well, and I can't wait for you all to see it.

Here's an article from IndieWire about it and a handful of other movies to watch for at the festival:

More info about it, coming soon...

2017 by CM French

This last year was strange for us Americans. While trying to wrap my head around the insane, ridiculous things happening in our society, I put my head down and got A LOT of work done. Here's a bit of what I spent 2017 doing...

 • 5 Weddings •

I had the opportunity to create the original music score for this Indie Dramatic Comedy about a young Indian-American journalist who travels to India for a story - and ends up discovering her own cultural identity.

 • Non-Binary •

I signed on to work with Florian & Joshua again, the creators of Limina to score their visionary feature-length documentary which follows Joshua's journey to be officially recognized as a person with a non-binary gender in Canada.

 • The Human Trial •

I finally got to score a short look at this amazing documentary following the company ViaCyte and its push forward with a cure for Diabetes.

  Young & Hungry  •

And, of course, I scored another season of the hit TV comedy, which was broken up into 2 "seasons" via Freeform. So the 2nd half of that won't air until 2018, fingers crossed for another season as well!

Anyway, if you're reading this, I want to say Thank You for your support - I also plan to release a series of EPs of cool, vibey instrumental electronic music in the coming months.  Some dark ambient sounds that I've been inspired to create recently. So I'll be updating all this info soon, but here's to the end of a weird year and the beginning of a GREAT one!

Cheers to 2018.

SmartCast Interview by CM French

I recently did a podcast interview with Larry Benjamin, head of Smart Post Sound the award-winning Film & TV mix stage here in LA. It was awesome, he came to my personal studio and we talked for a while about my work as a composer, and as an artist in bands and writing/producing with other artists. Check it out, and check out their other podcast episodes too, here

LIMINA by CM French

I recently had the absolute pleasure of creating the original score for this beautiful little short film, and I'm just now getting a free moment to write something about it.

This is a powerful story about a gender fluid child, who has unconditional love to give, despite being misunderstood.

It was an awesome experience, working with Florian & Joshua on this film, and having the freedom to make music that was both magical and mature. Just like Alessandra.

I really hope you all get to see it at some point, but for now it's off to the festival circuit.

Check out more info and the teaser here

New Representation! by CM French

I'm excited to announce that I'm working with First Artists Management - along with some of my heroes in the world of film & TV composition like Nathan Barr (Hostel, True Blood, The Americans), Nate Walcott (The Fault In Our Stars), Carter Burwell (Fargo, True Grit, Where The Wild Things Are), Clint Mansell (Black Swan, Requiem For A Dream, Moon) and so many more - for representation as a composer.

They have a really awesome record of great things, and I'm excited to dive even further into my work with scoring music to cool fun projects! It's a blessing to be able to contribute in my own way to these kinds of things, and an honor to be trusted with the delicate layer that music adds to a motion picture of any kind.

Stoked!
